Prawn Bonanza Hits the Sunshine Coast After Perfect Fishing Conditions

SUNSHINE COAST — Seafood lovers are in for a treat, with an abundance of fresh prawns hitting Sunshine Coast seafood markets following a run of favourable conditions for the local fishing fleet.

Local seafood outlets are well stocked, with fresh prawns among the standout catches as trawlers take advantage of conditions that have helped deliver plenty of seafood to the region.

For Sunshine Coast locals, it means now could be one of the best times to put prawns back on the menu — whether they are served fresh and chilled, thrown on the barbecue or used in a classic seafood platter.

The Sunshine Coast has a strong reputation for quality Australian seafood, particularly its prawns, and local suppliers are currently showcasing plenty of options for seafood lovers.

In Caloundra, seafood market @ CALOUNDRA on Bulcock Street is one of the Coast’s established destinations for fresh and cooked seafood. The market promotes a wide range of Australian seafood including prawns, bugs, crabs and fresh fish.

Another local supplier, Daniel Street Fish Market at Caloundra West, specialises in fresh and local seafood and offers Mooloolaba King Prawns along with Tiger Prawns and green prawns in a variety of sizes.

The good supply is welcome news for seafood businesses and consumers alike, particularly with prawns remaining one of Queensland’s favourite seafood choices.

Recent conditions have also provided a reminder of just how quickly the fortunes of the local fishing industry can change. When weather and ocean conditions come together, trawlers can enjoy productive nights on the water and markets can quickly find themselves with an impressive supply of fresh local catch.

For consumers, buying locally caught seafood also provides direct support to the commercial

fishing industry and the businesses that process, prepare and sell the catch across the Sunshine Coast.

And with seafood counters looking particularly inviting, locals may not need a special occasion.

Sometimes a kilo of fresh prawns, some lemon, a cold drink and a Sunshine Coast

afternoon are reason enough.
